Lift design for geotechnical engineering.

I need to propose a way of building a lift well, and I need to ensure that I achieve Geotech stability, both during and after construction. This means telling the structural engineer what he needs to achieve in the structural detailing (eg, the loads he has to design for, expected structural actions and what assumptions you have made.
Are there any resources for this or how to attack this in a specification?
