why forward leveling and backward leveling give different results?

Today I started finding points difference elevations with Sokkia B40. I had a distance of 100m of points A&B. from A to B, the difference achieved was 63mm, but in the return, from B to A, the difference achieved was 107mm. why is this happening? I changed three, four Level devices but none made me satisfied.  ?
